Software Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

What You Will Do

Collins Aerospace leads in technologically advanced, intelligent solutions that help redefine the aerospace and defense industry. With a broad portfolio and deep technical expertise, the team helps customers meet global market demands.

The intern will join the Avionics Software Tools team in Melbourne, FL. This team builds Avionics Function tools that configure Avionics products and Integrated Modular Architecture systems tools that help systems engineers design and deploy aircraft software and I/O. The work covers DO-330 qualified tools, simulation and infrastructure tools for several avionics teams, and cloud and desktop environments used in DevOps pipelines and by external customers.

  • Work in a cross-functional agile team
  • Collaborate closely with a mentor using Collins Aerospace engineering processes
  • Develop tools for avionics software development in a DevOps environment
  • Present the completed project at the Summer Engineering Project (SEPP) demo fair

What You Will Learn

  • How tools are developed and used in avionics for certifying airborne software and aircraft systems
  • How to work in a multidisciplinary team that delivers solutions used by Collins engineers to build Avionics products

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related STEM major, and actively enrolled through the end of the internship session.
  • At least 60 credit hours completed by the start of the internship session.
  • Coding experience in higher-level languages such as Python, C/C++ or Java.

Experience may come from on-the-job work, research, coursework or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Object-oriented programming experience
  • Prior RTX internship, co-op or work experience

This is an onsite role. Candidates may be asked to attend some interview steps in person at an RTX office, whether the role is onsite, hybrid or remote.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship now or in the future. The company will not offer immigration sponsorship or seek export authorization for this position. No security clearance is required.
