Applied Signal Technology (AST) is looking for engineers who strive for excellence and want to help strengthen the nation and improve global security. AST provides trusted strategic and tactical SIGINT solutions. Its work spans high-capacity broadband communications, signal processing and analysis, tactical SIGINT, and wireless communications. This position will be staffed in Annapolis Junction, MD.

The team needs a Software Engineer who is proactive, makes decisions, and generates ideas that move product development forward. Responsibilities cover the full product lifecycle, from architecture and design through integration, test and field support. You will help build, test and deliver software applications deployed to advanced systems that process modern communications for the U.S. Government. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of standard programming practices, software architecture and networking.

What You Will Do

• Work on complex technical problems as part of collaborative, cross-disciplinary integrated product teams.
• Work under the guidance of a product lead and team members who help establish an approach, perform code review and support testing.

What You Will Learn

• How to collaborate productively in a team-based development environment using disciplined engineering processes.
• How to develop code with the larger end product and customers in mind.
• Exposure to large code bases and toolsets such as Jira, Confluence, Git and Docker.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Object Oriented Design and Development.
• Software development experience through an internship, co-op, or other work or academic project.
• Experience working both in a team environment and individually.
• Experience with Rust, Qt, User Interface development and Angular web GUI development.
• Experience with Multithreading and Embedded SW Design.
• Experience integrating software with hardware.
• Experience with configuration management tools such as git, and maintaining build processes (makefiles, CMake).
• Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP and other network protocols.
• Experience with or basic understanding of telecommunications systems concepts, signal processing, and International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Standards.
