Audit & Reimbursement Intern Indianapolis

This role requires associates to be in the office at least 3 days per week (some weeks may require 4 days). The approach blends structured office time with the flexibility of virtual work, supporting productivity and work-life balance.

The Audit and Reimbursement (A&R) Intern will support Elevance Health's Medicare Administrative Contract (MAC) with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a division of the Department of Health and Human Services. Working under guided supervision, the intern will gain experience with complex issues involving the Medicare cost report and Medicare Part A reimbursement. Interns will take part in contractual A&R workload and may join special projects, and they will be included in key audit deliverables while building critical thinking skills and working knowledge of A&R.

The A&R Internship is a 12-week, full-time program running from May 17, 2027 to August 6, 2027.

How you will make an impact

• Assist with industry workload deliverables.
• Complete tasks across the various phases and workloads of the A&R process.
• Document business operations in Microsoft Excel workpapers or Word narratives.
• Assist with workload relating to Medicare cost report receipt, acceptance, and tentative or final settlement, and other audit support.

Preferred skills and experiences

• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and a quick learner.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to apply problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Interest in the healthcare industry.
• Candidates graduating in December 2027 or May 2028 with a 3.2 GPA or higher are preferred, though all graduation dates are considered equally.
