Summer 2027 Data Science Intern

Position Summary

As a Data Science Intern on the Last Mile team, you will work on data-driven problems that directly affect Walmart's delivery experience and operational performance. You will partner with Data Scientists, Analysts, and business stakeholders to analyze large-scale data, identify opportunities, and develop insights that help improve Last Mile operations.

This is a chance to get hands-on experience applying data science, analytics, simulation, optimization, and AI to real-world business problems at scale.

About the Team

The team applies data analytics and advanced modeling to optimize Last Mile operations. Working closely with data scientists, engineers, and business partners, members build solutions that improve operational efficiency and customer experience. They analyze large datasets, develop simulation and machine learning models, and build dashboards to support data-driven decisions.

What You'll Do

• Analyze large datasets to identify trends, opportunities, and operational gaps across Last Mile.
• Develop and apply simulation and optimization models to improve Last Mile operational efficiency.
• Perform exploratory and root-cause analysis on key operational performance metrics.
• Develop dashboards, metrics, and analytical solutions to support data-driven decision-making.
• Build and evaluate statistical or machine learning models to solve complex business problems.
• Partner with Data Scientists, Engineers, and business teams to translate business problems into analytical solutions.
• Contribute to automation and AI-driven solutions that improve operational efficiency and customer experience.
• Communicate analytical findings, insights, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

At Walmart, the company offers competitive pay and benefits. The hourly wage range for this position is $21.00 - $40.00. The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the applicable minimum wage for the job location.
