Who we are

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the creator of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, a platform that helps organizations that depend on physical operations use Internet of Things (IoT) data to gain actionable insights and improve how they run. Samsara works to improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power the global economy, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing.

Samsara's product areas include Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As a recently public company, the team offers autonomy and support to make an impact while building for the long term.

About the role

Interns can work on a wide range of engineering challenges across the connected operations platform. Depending on the team, an intern may help build backend infrastructure for the IoT platform, scaling data ingestion and storage systems that support more than 15,000 hardware assets and tens of thousands of customers worldwide. Interns may also work across the full stack, building user experiences that turn data into insights while partnering with product and design to iterate quickly on features.

On the mobile side, an intern could improve the infrastructure behind the React Native app so feature teams can move quickly and ship performant, maintainable products. Those focused on embedded software may build and maintain software that runs directly on Samsara hardware, in areas such as edge AI, multimedia frameworks, power management, and real-time data processing.

The interview process looks at your past experience, what you want to learn next, and where you would fit best across the engineering teams.

Engineering teams use Golang for backend development, TypeScript and React for the web client, GraphQL for data access, and React Native for mobile. Direct experience with this exact stack is not required, but experience with similar technologies is strongly encouraged.

You should apply if

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world. The software you build will help keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, help workers return home safely.
  • You want to build for scale. You will work on technology that powers physical operations at a scale most engineers never see.
  • You believe customers are more than a number. Engineers visit customers in person to understand how Samsara helps them today and where the products need to go next. You may take part in customer interviews, work with success and product teams, and use metrics to confirm your work delivers real outcomes.
  • You are curious and self-driven. You take on challenges outside of class, such as hackathons, side projects, or taking apart how something works just to understand it. You move fast, embrace new technology, and treat learning as ongoing.
  • You are drawn to hard problems and own them end to end. You dig into complexity, research it thoroughly, and find the simplest solution that works, then see it through to a high standard.
  • You are AI-forward. You already use AI in your work, whether to speed up debugging, draft code, or explore unfamiliar problems. You experiment quickly and look for smarter ways to build.
  • You are a collaborator. You work well independently and across cross-functional teams, and you are motivated by winning together.

Applying

  1. Include your resume.
  2. Answer all of the application questions.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with the cohort expected to be finalized in late November or early December. Applications close on November 26th at 11:59pm (ET). Please do not email to ask about the status of your application.

Total rewards

Compensation combines base salary, performance-based bonus or variable pay, and equity for eligible roles. Beyond compensation, Samsara offers a flexible, employee-led remote model, a professional development stipend, comprehensive health and parental leave plans, and more.

Offices are open for those who prefer in-person work, and remote work is supported where it fits operational needs. Some positions require being near an office or in a specific area, and the job description will state any such requirement. All offers are contingent on the right to work in the specified location.
