Compensation Overview

The hourly salary range shown is a nationwide market range covering a broad set of salaries for this role. The actual hourly rate depends on factors such as the scope, complexity and location of the role, the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials and experience, and other conditions of employment. Employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in October, so applying early is encouraged. Travelers Risk Control brings more than 105 years of experience in property risk control and safety management, supported by industrial hygiene, fire and forensics laboratories. The team gives customers recommendations to control hazards and reduce the risk of property damage or injury.

What Will You Do?

Under direct supervision, the intern will build risk control and insurance industry knowledge and support home office leadership, commercial or construction field consultants, and specialist staff in property, casualty services and forensics or industrial hygiene lab. This is a paid 10-12 week position based in Hartford, CT (or the immediate area), with company subsidized housing for those who meet the mileage radius requirement.

• Work in a team environment on risk evaluations of client locations
• Determine potential hazards and risk factors considered in risk selection
• Identify uncontrolled hazards and make recommendations
• Consult with clients on controlling hazards to reduce, mitigate or prevent loss
• Research and apply technical information to support risk control services
• Attend co-surveys with experienced Risk Control staff
• Collaborate with Underwriting, Claims, Clients, BI Business Partners and other Risk Control staff
• Complete a Capstone project and presentation to senior management on a Risk Control topic
• Complete assignments on time and perform other duties as assigned

What Is a Must Have?

• GPA of 3.0 or higher in a relevant degree program, such as Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health, Allied Health, Fire Protection Engineering, Kinesiology, Construction Safety, Construction Management, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer and Digital Forensics, Civil or Industrial Engineering, Science or Business
• Social Science and Humanities students with interest and aptitude will also be considered
• Must be registered as a returning student and have completed related work studies
