The hourly pay range shown for this position is a nationwide market range covering salaries for this role across the country. The actual rate will depend on factors such as the scope, complexity and location of the role, the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials and experience, and other conditions of employment. Employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers Risk Control brings over 105 years of experience in property risk control and safety management, supported by industrial hygiene, fire and forensics laboratories. The team helps customers identify hazards and reduce the risk of property damage or injury.

What Will You Do?

Under direct supervision, this 10-12 week paid internship focuses on building risk control and general insurance knowledge. You will help support home office leadership, commercial or construction field consultants, and specialist staff in property, casualty services and forensics or industrial hygiene. The position is based in Hartford, CT (or the immediate area), and company subsidized housing is available for those who meet the mileage radius requirement.

Your work will happen within a team and may include:

• Preparing, conducting and completing risk evaluations of client locations
• Determining potential hazards and risk factors for risk selection
• Identifying uncontrolled hazards and making appropriate recommendations
• Consulting with clients on ways to control hazards and reduce, mitigate or prevent loss
• Researching and applying technical information to support risk control services
• Attending co-surveys with experienced Risk Control staff to build consulting skills
• Collaborating with Underwriting, Claims, Clients, BI Business Partners and other Risk Control staff
• Completing one Capstone project and presenting it to senior management on a relevant Risk Control topic
• Keeping assignments on schedule and performing other duties as assigned

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

Successful candidates will show strong communication, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills, along with critical thinking, a willingness to learn quickly, and the ability to work independently. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and other business software is expected. The role requires availability to work 40 hours per week for the full internship.
