The Business Insurance (BI) Underwriting Professional Development Internship Program gives students exposure to underwriting, which evaluates the acceptability of risk and determines appropriate pricing for insurance products. The 10-week program runs from early June to mid-August and offers hands-on commercial insurance underwriting experience, on-the-job training, and insight into the property and casualty industry from industry professionals. Interns should be serious about entering the insurance industry and interested in underwriting as a future career. This role is a potential pathway to the full-time Underwriting Professional Development Program (UPDP).

What Will You Do?

• Within your assigned business unit, each intern will have a designated coach and is expected to complete core assignments and training modules on insurance and underwriting principles.
• Complete self-paced professional development courses in time management, presentation skills, and other key areas.
• Complete project work at the discretion of your manager, either independently or with other interns, and present findings to local leadership. Sample projects include a territorial risk assessment to determine profitability and underwriting opportunities, and a business process analysis to identify underwriting gaps.
• Learn to use modern analytical and artificial intelligence (AI) tools and platforms, and apply critical thinking to assess the quality and accuracy limits of AI-assisted outputs.
• Learn about other areas at Travelers, such as Risk Control, Claims, and corporate functions. Interns may also join agency visits with Account Executives.
• Take part in the Enterprise Internship experience, including the Executive Speaker Series, networking events, and the Rising Senior Intern Symposium.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

• Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Obtained or pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Liberal Arts (business focus preferred), Management, Marketing, or Risk Management and Insurance.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

What is a Must Have?

• Pursuing or obtained a Bachelor's degree.
