Mechanical Engineer Intern (El Segundo)

Raytheon Intelligence & Space is looking for an internship-level Mechanical Engineer to join the space and airborne optics department. The role supports development, integration and test across multiple space and airborne programs in El Segundo, CA.

The selected candidate will design opto-mechanical components in Creo and support assembly, integration and test work in a lab environment. You will work alongside junior and senior manufacturing and mechanical engineers on the design, build and test of EO/IR space hardware.

Responsibilities

• Create and revise opto-mechanical designs and drawings
• Generate assembly instructions and provide build support with technicians and other engineering disciplines
• Apply design for producibility and manufacturability principles
• Present your work at peer reviews
• Research component design and materials for the analysis of mechanical assemblies
• Produce detailed design drawings with GD&T to keep requirements intact
• Work with a cross-functional team on material selection, thermal management, precision mechanical mounting and motion, and structural optimization, while balancing schedule constraints
• Handle change management and engineering changes in a product data management tool, including creating, reworking and updating designs

You will mainly interact with your section manager, team lead, project leaders and peers within the program.
