About the job

Are you ready to explore aerospace and defense? RTX internships, co-ops and full-time careers offer a strong foundation for working on complex problems, building your skills and helping create a safer, more connected world.

What You Will Do

The Commercial lubrication and thermal management systems team analyzes and develops the functional characteristics of the oil system in a highly complex environment. This is a systems role that calls for deep technical skill, using advanced systems analysis tools, component testing in rigs, and the design, execution and analysis of full-scale engine testing.

  • Use 1D flow modeling to analyze and design gas turbine lubrication and thermal management systems
  • Use field data to monitor fleet health and support customers
  • Specify engine validation test plans, review engine and test rig data, and match analytical models to engine data
  • Optimize oil system architecture for safety of flight, adequate cooling and lubrication oil flow and pressure to mechanical components, oil conditioning (storage, deaeration/deoiling, filtration and filter life, minimizing oil degradation, and cooling), and containing oil within system boundaries
  • Work independently to develop system level solutions

What You Will Learn

As a member of the lubrication and thermal management systems discipline, you will be part of an integrated product team at the module level and contribute to the systems integrated product team for the engine, chaired by the chief engineer. The role also interfaces with engine mechanical systems, air systems and the performance group, giving you exposure to the entire engine while making deep technical contributions using advanced systems design and analysis methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework in aero-thermal fluids and/or lab experience in fluid mechanics and heat transfer
  • At least 60 credit hours completed by the start of the internship or co-op session
