Software Engineering Trainee

Overview

Participants join the Bank's Technology Development Program (TDP), a 2-year program that builds in-depth technical skills in one specific discipline. Participants then complete rotations across several Technology departments to understand all technical disciplines and keep growing in their chosen discipline.

Consumer & Marketing Application Development

Join teams building and modernizing applications that support Consumer and Business Banking, Marketing, Sales, and Call Center technology. You will work with modern software engineering technologies and languages including Java, Spring Boot, .NET, Angular, and Azure, while supporting work across cloud migration, data engineering, and generative AI.

Primary Responsibilities

• Work with experienced technology staff to build in-depth technical skills in a specific discipline such as Software Engineering, Engineering, Architecture, Data Engineering or Cybersecurity.
• Complete a series of rotations over a set timeframe in multiple technical disciplines to gain a broader understanding of how they are used at the Bank and how they work together to deliver solutions to internal and external customers.
• Determine post-program assignment in one of the core areas through career path design, performance assessment, and interest.
• Understand and follow the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in line with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues that need escalation to management.
• Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and any issues raised by external regulators.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities

The Technology Development Program is a rotational training program for Bachelor degreed individuals in a technical discipline. The program is flexible enough to shape the jobholder's career and expand their career objectives. It combines career planning, technical and competency-based training, mentorship, and challenging assessments designed to accelerate one's career with the Bank.
