Electronic Warfare (EW) is a growing enterprise that protects the warfighter and national security against constantly evolving threats. The EW Division has an opening for a Software Engineer Intern to take part in design, development, and hardware/software integration in Arlington, VA over the summer.
The division focuses mainly on research and development and advanced prototyping, turning state of the art signal processing algorithms into real-time software systems. Projects involve small multi-disciplinary teams working in spiral or agile environments to meet tight customer schedules aimed at near-term field demonstrations. You will help implement high-performance signal processing on general purpose processors and graphics processing units.
Primary Responsibilities
- Contribute to advanced systems as part of multi-disciplinary teams with software engineers and subject matter experts in systems engineering, hardware, firmware, machine learning, RF front end design, and signal processing.
- Design, implement, and test real-time C/C++ software for multi-core systems running Linux or a real-time operating system such as VxWorks.
- Build software products that use third party mathematics and communication libraries.
- Interface communication standards and protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, and DDS.
- Read and understand signal processing algorithms written in MATLAB.
- Work with the Linux operating system and real-time operating systems.
- Design, implement, and test software to configure and control RF hardware devices.
- Integrate software into third-party frameworks and architectures, such as Redhawk.
- Document the systems you develop.
Basic Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Software development experience (0+ years), including strong programming in Python, MATLAB, or C++.
- Experience with version control (e.g. git, Subversion) and continuous integration tools (e.g. Jenkins).
- Experience with software testing tools and methodology.
- Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation for software.
- Exposure to hardware interfaces (e.g. PCIe, UART, or Ethernet).
- Exposure to build tools (e.g. GCC, CMake, or Make).
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design.
- Understanding of hardware-software interaction and computer architecture.
- Understanding of unit test frameworks and test-driven development.
- Ability to communicate and share ideas, concepts, and designs with a team of engineers.
- Ability and motivation to keep learning new technical skills and concepts.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- An active Secret security clearance or higher.
- Experience maintaining, tracking, and updating tickets and status using GitLab or a similar tool.
- Experience with common scripting languages (e.g. bash).
- Experience with software architecture and design.
