Job Description

Patients inspire the science behind our advancements, and interns work on teams that develop the medicines of tomorrow. The Oncology team aims to eliminate cancer by finding new pathways and treatments, and it looks for innovators committed to results.

The Global Oncology Internship Program is a learning and professional experience designed to build a talent pool for future roles at Johnson & Johnson after degree completion. The internship is full-time for approximately 12 weeks (May 10 - August 13, 2027).

The program follows a hybrid model for roles that are not lab based: interns report on site three times a week and may work remotely twice a week.

As a summer intern in Global Medical Safety, you will join a global matrixed team focused on research and development of oncologic therapeutics, including clinical strategy execution and the clinical and operational implementation of compound programs in Phase I to III oncology studies. Interns are assigned mentors and contribute to project work within Global Medical Safety, and may collaborate with several disciplines.

Interns may contribute to Cross-Functional Trial Team (CFTT) activities and work with other project teams. They present their work to project teams and the Oncology Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and must present a primary research project as a poster or abstract at the annual global summer intern research symposium near the end of the internship.

The program aims to give undergraduate and graduate students experience in a large pharmaceutical R&D setting and a basic understanding of drug development science and process. Students learn about disease states, diagnosis, treatments, and the mechanisms of emerging drugs, and receive training on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), function-specific training, and related systems and tools.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Routine safety surveillance for clinical trial and post-marketed data
  • Helping plan and prepare Periodic Safety Review (PSR) and Signal Management Team (SMT) meetings through review of cumulative and interval data
  • Contributing to upcoming global submissions
  • Building understanding of clinical research and drug development, including Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), ICH guidelines, and SOPs
  • Attending the "Bench to Bedside" Lecture Series
  • Participating in department, team, clinical, and cross-functional meetings
  • Collaborating on projects from other functional disciplines
  • Taking leadership roles in internship activities and/or group projects
  • Preparing and presenting an abstract or poster at the organization-wide annual research symposium
  • Other projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Legally and permanently authorized to work in the US without required sponsorship. CPT requirements must be communicated at application
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university or college program for the full internship duration
  • Not graduating before, during, or immediately after the internship
  • Graduate students in good standing in a matriculated master's, PharmD, PhD, Physician Assistant, or similar program (e.g., Clinical Sciences, Clinical Research, Nursing)
  • Undergraduate students in good standing with at least six semesters completed in clinical, pharmacy, premed, PA, nursing, or similar studies
  • Self-motivated and passionate about drug development and clinical research
  • Campus or service program participation is desired
  • Detail oriented with good organizational skills and strong leadership skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English with strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Able to lead peers and project teams, present to senior leadership, and work within global matrixed teams
  • Able to balance multiple project deliverables
  • Working knowledge of Slack and Microsoft business applications such as Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Word

Candidates on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually need future sponsorship for long-term employment and do not meet program requirements unless eligible for a long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.
