Frontend Software Engineer Intern

About the Role

Skydio is the leading US drone company and a world leader in autonomous flight. The team combines expertise in artificial intelligence, hardware and software product development, operational excellence, and customer focus to serve drone users ranging from utility inspectors to first responders, soldiers in battlefield scenarios, and beyond.

Public safety, critical infrastructure, and enterprise customers rely on Remote Flight Deck (RFD), Skydio's browser-based piloting experience, to see the scene quickly and coordinate a response. As a frontend intern on the RFD Platform team, you will help build that experience. RFD is the product customers fly from, so the work starts in the interface and extends into video, telemetry, and the backend services when a feature requires it.

The RFD Platform team builds the browser platform every remote pilot uses, including live video, telemetry, the map, and flight controls. As an intern, you will ship production features alongside engineers, designers, and product managers, and you may follow a problem beyond the frontend when it leads there.

How You'll Make an Impact

• Design and implement pilot-facing features that help operators make faster, safer decisions while flying.
• Bring curiosity, technical skill, and a collaborative mindset to help make the world more productive, creative, and safe with autonomous drones.
• Work with product managers, designers, engineers, and support to deliver high-quality features to customers.

Project Examples

• Build on the multi-cockpit view that lets pilots open several drone feeds at once.
• Ship a camera control such as click-to-focus, where pilots hold F, click a point in the live video, and lock focus and exposure on a moving target.
• Add a map layer, such as flight-path breadcrumbs, that shows a live trail of where the drone has flown.
• Render AR bounds around subject tracks from the vehicle, and let users instruct the drone to follow a vehicle.
