About the role

Skydio's mechanical systems are the backbone of reliable autonomous flight. An intelligent flying machine depends on world-class engineering and attention to detail while staying focused on simplicity. You will help architect, develop, and refine the structures, mechanisms, and solutions that bring autonomous flight to a broad audience in a highly collaborative setting.

How you will make an impact

  • Design mechanical parts and assemblies for our aircraft, ground stations, and accessories, working alongside senior engineers on new architectures and taking ownership of components as you grow.
  • Partner with electrical engineers to integrate custom PCBAs, flex circuits, antennas, and cable harnesses into mechanical designs.
  • Work with vendors on technical questions and part reviews, in collaboration with our operations and supply chain teams.
  • Plan and run engineering tests, and use analysis to evaluate design trade-offs and verify that your parts perform as intended.
  • Follow your designs through the full development cycle, from early prototypes to pre-production and mass production, and help manufacturing teams with assembly processes and quality and inspection criteria.
  • Investigate and debug failures, digging into the details to find root causes.

What you will get

  • Mentorship from experienced mechanical engineers and regular design reviews that help you build judgment quickly.
  • Hands-on exposure to the whole hardware lifecycle on products that ship at scale.
  • A growing scope of ownership as you show what you can do.

Nice to have

  • Experience with CATIA specifically.
  • Exposure to GD&T, tolerance analysis, or FEA.
  • Experience with composites or electromechanical systems (drones, consumer electronics, robotics, etc.).
  • Experience rapidly prototyping with 3D printing, machine shop tools, or similar.

Compensation

Compensation for regular, full-time employees includes competitive base salaries, equity in the form of stock options, and comprehensive benefits. Pay varies based on skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. Relocation assistance may be provided for eligible roles. The annual base salary range for this position is $132,000 - $175,000, and may vary based on the position's location.

Regular, full-time employees are eligible to enroll in group health insurance plans, and receive paid vacation time, sick leave, holiday pay, and a 401K savings plan. All benefits are subject to applicable federal, state, and local laws and company policies.
