PhD Summer Intern

Drug Product Development partners with colleagues across the full pharmaceutical development process, from discovery to commercial launch and beyond. The group delivers drug products for biologics and small molecules, including sterile formulations and novel drug delivery technologies. We look for candidates who are proven team players, enjoy pursuing unique scientific discovery in an emerging field, and show solid operational, interpersonal, project management, and collaboration skills. The summer intern program is where this starts.

Summer interns work with mentors for about 10 weeks on a guided research project in sterile formulation development and novel drug delivery technologies for biologics and small molecules, across liquid, lyophilized, and other advanced delivery platforms. The role combines wet-lab and dry-lab work. Interns run feasibility experiments with formulation and processing technologies, supporting formulation development, formulation screening, stability assessment, physicochemical and biophysical characterization of critical quality attributes, and process optimization. The project may also cover biopharmaceutical investigation of biologics, including structure-function relationships, degradation pathways, and stability-indicating strategies that inform formulation design and support robust, patient-friendly drug products.

The program includes:

• An orientation covering company structure, products, and brands
• An introduction to the GPS and PD organizations
• Exposure to senior management and business leaders
• Hands-on training and work in pharmaceutical manufacturing process areas and testing laboratories
• A formal presentation at the end of the internship
• A mentor program
• Formal review and feedback sessions

Program dates run Monday, June 7, 2027 through Friday, August 13, 2027. Applications are accepted now and reviewed on a rolling basis. Selected candidates will be notified no later than February 2027.

Pay for this internship is set according to local market practices and applicable laws. It may be offered as an hourly rate, a monthly stipend, or another locally compliant structure, based on factors such as academic level, relevant experience, skills, and work location. Interns may be eligible for limited benefits depending on program structure, work location, and local requirements. This is a temporary, time-bound position and does not guarantee continued or permanent employment after the program ends.
