Secure System Engineering

Are you ready to explore aerospace and defense? RTX internships, co-ops and full-time careers give you a strong foundation to work on complex problems, build your skills and help create a safer, more connected world.

You are the kind of engineering student who likes taking things apart to see how they work. You are likely active in cybersecurity or coding clubs, and you probably have a few dismantled electronic devices set aside for personal projects. If that sounds like you, Secure System Engineering, where Systems, Software and Safety Engineering meet, is a good fit.

The Embedded Product Cybersecurity Engineering team is looking for a Secure System Engineer Intern for Summer 2027. This shared services team supports product development across the company wherever a customer has a security requirement or a system will be exposed to cyber threats through connectivity or operational use over public networks. The team helps build cyber-resilient systems by supporting design and implementation teams through a Secure System Development Lifecycle (SSDLC). The team also develops tools and testing techniques to find residual defects that could affect the confidentiality, availability or integrity of a system.

What You Will Do

  • Help develop and run fuzzing and penetration tests to evaluate attack surface robustness.
  • Create threat models and data flow diagrams to make sure data is properly isolated in transit and at rest.
  • Implement mandatory access controls (MAC) by developing SELinux policies.
  • Take part in code reviews to find weaknesses in the implementation of security functions.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments on proposed and in-service systems.
  • Develop and improve tools and scripts that make the Embedded Product Cybersecurity team more effective.

What You Will Learn

  • The stages and practical application of the Collins Aerospace Secure Systems Development Lifecycle.
  • The day-to-day work of a cybersecurity engineer.
  • Hands-on experience with security testing methods, with an emphasis on fuzzing.
  • Advanced Python skills for building scripts and tools that automate and improve cybersecurity workflows.
  • The full process of developing threat models and protecting data through strict isolation and access controls.

This is an onsite position located in Windsor Locks. Candidates may also be asked to attend some interview steps in person at an RTX office location.
