Software Engineer Co-op at RTX

Are you ready to explore aerospace and defense? RTX internships, co-ops and full-time careers give you a strong foundation to work on complex problems, build your skills and help create a safer, more connected world.

What You Will Do

Raytheon's Air & Space Defense Systems (ASDS) strategic business unit focuses on multi-domain integrated air and missile defense, advanced sensors, space-based systems, hypersonics, effectors and cyber solutions. Within ASDS, Space Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance delivers information superiority from space, multi-mission automation and orchestration, multiple intelligence (Multi-INT) and resilient operations, secure processing, and data management.

Raytheon is hiring Software Engineer co-ops through the Raytheon Cooperative Education Program. This is a part-time, remote role for senior or postgraduate students with an expected graduation date of December 2027.

Co-ops will take part in monthly engagement seminars, complete required Raytheon training, participate in security clearance activities and meet with a mentor. The part-time position requires 2-4 hours per month for these activities and does not include an internship or direct program or project work.

After graduation and clearance approval, co-ops transition to a full-time, onsite position in Richardson, Texas, supporting the design, development and maintenance of systems for customer missions.

What You Will Learn

  • Customer domain specific mission concepts and technologies
  • Principles of systems engineering, including requirements, architecture and design, and test
  • Software engineering approaches, use of artificial intelligence, and agile development techniques
  • Platform and software infrastructure basics, including continuous integration and continuous delivery

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Agile development
  • Experience developing software using Python, C++ or JavaScript
  • Experience working with applications in the AWS Cloud
  • Experience with microservices, Docker, Kubernetes and containerized applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

What We Offer

  • A culture guided by RTX values: Safety, Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration and Innovation.
  • Relocation eligibility after the co-op period and conversion to full-time employment.

This role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance (TS/SCI without Polygraph), so U.S. citizenship is required. Co-ops will be remote during the co-op period, and conversion to full-time results in an onsite role.
