Electrical Engineering Internship at Collins Aerospace

Are you interested in aerospace and defense? RTX offers internships, co-ops and full-time careers that help you work on complex problems, build your skills and help create a safer, more connected world. RTX is the world's largest aerospace and defense company, with about 185,000 employees.

Collins Aerospace develops technologically advanced, intelligent solutions for the aerospace and defense industry. This Summer 2027 internship is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in the Resilient Connectivity Products Hardware Department.

You will work alongside experienced Collins engineers to design and develop digital hardware for high performance communication products, such as software-defined radios and data links used in ground, airborne and space applications. Candidates should be eager to learn new technologies, work well in a team and help build a positive work environment.

What You Will Do

  • Carry out circuit card design lifecycle work, including requirements capture, schematic capture, design documentation, signal integrity analysis, printed circuit board stackup and routing instructions, review of printed wiring board layout, test plans and root cause analysis.
  • Create and analyze electrical schematics.
  • Select components needed to meet design requirements.
  • Test and troubleshoot electronic circuitry.
  • Help with root cause analysis of digital hardware factory and field failures.

What You Will Learn

  • How to apply theoretical knowledge from school to practical engineering work.
  • Technical skills across hardware design phases, including requirements, design, schematic capture, layout, test and verification, integration and factory transition.
  • Design documentation methods and processes.
  • Signal and power integrity analysis.
  • Printed circuit board stackup and routing, and review of printed wiring board layouts.
  • Creating hardware test plans.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with digital electronics design (such as microprocessor or microcontroller circuits, DSP, FPGA, ADC, DAC) and lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and analyzers.
  • Experience with a schematic capture tool (such as Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, Siemens Xpedition Enterprise, Cadence Allegro, Altium or KiCad) and signal integrity tools such as Hyperlynx.
  • Working knowledge of digital circuit parameters (throughput, rise time, clock frequencies, propagation delay) and computer hardware components.

RTX values trust, respect, accountability, collaboration and innovation. Relocation eligibility is available.

This role is U.S.-based and requires U.S. citizenship. It is an onsite role, and candidates may be asked to attend some interview steps in person.
