High Temperature Composites Engineering Intern

Are you ready to explore aerospace and defense? RTX offers internships, co-ops and full-time careers that help you work on complex problems, build your skills and help create a safer, more connected world.

RTX is the world's largest aerospace and defense company, with about 185,000 employees across three market-leading businesses. Collins Aerospace develops technologically advanced, intelligent solutions for the aerospace and defense industry.

About the Team

The motivated, detail-oriented intern will join the High Temperature Composites (HTC) team within Collins Advanced Structures (Landing Systems, Wheels and Brakes). The team applies carbon/carbon (C/C) and ceramic matrix composite (CMC) fabrication knowledge to structural applications. It works across multiple sites, mainly Pueblo, CO and Santa Fe Springs, CA, and with other Collins and RTX groups to solve difficult materials problems.

What You Will Do

  • Support the processing and characterization of C/C and CMC composites for high temperature applications, and prepare and lead Engineering Test Requests (ETRs) for these materials.
  • Support sub-projects such as material processing and testing, data collection and analysis, and technical report writing.
  • Help define processes and create procedures and specifications for on-site HTC activities.
  • Support customer and senior leadership meetings as needed, and act as direct point of contact for small material requests.
  • Direct technicians and production personnel as needed to meet project objectives.
  • Support the engineering management team in drafting presentations.

Preferred Experience

  • Software experience, such as SolidWorks or other CAD/CAM software, and MATLAB for engineering data analysis.
  • Previous engineering internship experience in a related field.
  • Previous engineering experience through lab work or coursework.

What We Offer

RTX values Trust, Respect, Accountability, Collaboration and Innovation. Relocation eligibility is available. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, a 401(k) match, paid time off, holidays and an employee assistance program, depending on the business unit and collective-bargaining coverage.
