Mechanical Engineering Co-op in Cedar Rapids, IA

What You Will Do

This is a full-time, Monday through Friday co-op running January through July/August, including the Spring semester. Students are expected to take a semester off from coursework to fully take part in this working mentorship.

As a Mechanical Engineering Co-op at Collins Aerospace, you will work with the mechanical engineering team on new solutions and ongoing process improvement for the Cedar Rapids, IA site. Collins Test Solution Engineering provides test equipment for Collins Aerospace products and programs, serving internal manufacturing and service centers as well as domestic and international customers. The right candidate has strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and a drive to establish new processes for controlling and monitoring 3D print jobs.

• Carry out assignments using moderate to complex mechanical engineering principles, and work daily with the 3D printer as print manager
• Develop designs, create and modify documentation, and support production with mechanical analysis and troubleshooting
• Contribute to a cross-functional team solving production and field-testing problems, including initial design, prototyping and environmental testing
• Work with Operations Support on documentation and design updates needed for production
• Build a system for coordinating, tracking and planning 3D printer operation, maintenance and productivity, and show the value rapid prototyping brings to the organization while developing best practices for other sites
