What You Will Do

Raytheon Intelligence & Space is looking for a Mechanical Engineer intern to join the space and airborne optics department. The role supports development, integration and test across multiple space and airborne programs in El Segundo, CA.

The intern will create mechanical component designs for opto-mechanical systems using Creo and support assembly, integration and test work in a lab. They will work alongside junior and senior manufacturing and mechanical engineers on the design, build and test of EO/IR space hardware. Duties include creating or revising opto-mechanical designs and drawings, writing assembly instructions, supporting builds with technicians and other engineering disciplines, and applying design for producibility and manufacturability. Interns will present their work at peer reviews.

Candidates should understand general components and how engineering principles apply to design and development. They should be able to research component design and materials for analyzing mechanical assemblies, and produce detailed drawings with GD&T. The work involves a cross-functional team covering material selection, thermal management, precision mechanical mounting and motion, and structural optimization, within schedule constraints. The intern will also handle change management and engineering changes in a product data management tool, including creating, reworking and updating designs. Day-to-day contacts are mainly the section manager, team leads, project leaders and peers.
