Software Engineer in Columbus, OH

Job Description Summary

Nationwide's Technology team is looking for a Software Engineer to help shape the technology future of servicing at Nationwide Financial. You will be part of Post Issue Optimization, one of Nationwide's most exciting programs, building innovative software solutions that create meaningful value for customers and associates. You will work alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams in a collaborative environment that values curiosity, creativity, and continuous learning. The ideal candidate has experience with Java, Angular and AWS.

This role works a hybrid schedule, coming into the Columbus, Ohio office 2 days per week on Mondays and Tuesdays.

As a Software Engineer, you will focus on providing high-quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. You will code, configure, test, debug, document, and maintain applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, test, debug, document, and deploy software according to engineering standards and best practices.
• Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to protect data and technology solutions from threats and vulnerabilities.
• Use DevSecOps practices, tooling, and techniques.
• Demonstrate continuous improvement and learning.
• Review and process project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables proactively.

Typical Skills and Experiences

• Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems or related degrees are preferred. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.
• Experience: Early career opportunity with one or more years of technology experience.
• Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, C++, Python or JavaScript. Knowledge of the software development lifecycle. Good problem-solving skills. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance or financial services industry knowledge is a plus.

Reports to a Technology Manager/Director. Overtime eligibility: Not eligible (exempt). Associates may have on-call responsibility after normal working hours and/or on weekends.
