Department Overview

The RF Site Hardware team sits within the Products and Solutions group at Motorola Solutions. The team develops and maintains highly reliable communications, infrastructure and networking products for Mission Critical and commercial markets worldwide. The RF Site Hardware Engineering team builds advanced Digital, RF, Mechanical and Power Supply solutions for customer needs.

Job Description

This entry level product design and development role involves designing and supporting manufacturing of sophisticated, reliable communications infrastructure products for professional and mission critical markets. In this position you will work mainly as a mechanical engineer on large or complex team projects, and as an individual contributor on smaller tasks. The role also supports method and process improvements or maintenance of existing product lines.

Responsibilities include:

• Preparing concept and prototype designs of mechanical systems, plus hands-on design and analysis of individual parts and components that meet customer requirements, reliability and robustness goals, manufacturing processes and safety guidelines.
• Modeling component and assembly designs with advanced 3D CAD tools, and creating 2D drawings to mechanical drafting standards.
• Designing and running experiments with statistical tools to confirm analyses, and evaluating new or existing designs against product specifications.
• Analyzing tolerances and their effects on design.
• Working with suppliers and commodity teams to meet cost and lead-time targets for tooling and piece parts.
• Setting up and maintaining bills of materials and releasing mechanical prints.
• Performing mechanical verification tests against product specifications and writing test reports.
• Supporting factory quality and process issues, providing feedback to resolve them, and supporting prototype and pilot builds.
• Developing intellectual property for the corporation.

Desired Skills:

• Hands-on experience with 3D modeling and surfacing software such as Creo Parametric (Pro/Engineer) or equivalent, for components and assemblies.
• Familiarity with design and manufacturing of parts such as die casting, machining, sheet metal and stampings, plastic injection molding, compression molded rubber, connectors, cables and printed circuit board assemblies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform hand or FEA calculations for stress and thermal analysis. Demonstrated Finite Element Analysis experience for structural and heat transfer applications is highly desirable.
• Use of test equipment such as thermal imaging, thermal scanners, air flow analysis and strain gauge tools.
• Works autonomously but collaborates well with engineers in mechanical and other disciplines (electrical engineering, procurement, manufacturing, etc.).
• Manages multiple concurrent projects.
• Produces concise and comprehensive design and test reports.
• Explains complex technical concepts clearly.
• Good writing and communication skills.
