What You Will Do

The Military Repair Engineering Group provides repair design, program management, tool design/development, source demonstration, and project engineering support for the full range of Pratt & Whitney military engines.

As a Military Repair Design Engineer intern, you will be responsible for planning, execution, and tracking Military Repair activities both domestically and internationally.

As a member of the ASE Military Engine Design Engineering team, you will work closely with a fully cross functional team, including design, structures, part family leads, tooling, and validation, to deliver repair capability to our military customers. In this role, you will also collaborate with the Program Management Office, the Military Repair Council, and Tinker Repair Development teams to create repair related technical documentation. Repair process activity within the group spans all programs and engines and the Repair Design Engineer role has the core responsibility for delivering repairs to the committed timeline.

As a Repair Design Engineer Intern, at Pratt & Whitney, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Execute assigned tasks to meet schedule requirements.
  • Research operating environments and functionality of components, interactions with mating parts, to develop strategies which will return damaged parts back in to service.
  • Create technical documents that provide engineering requirements for repairs.
  • Research and review source processes for alignment to published technical data.
  • Collaborate with other Repair Design Engineers (RDEs) for repair development and engage with repair process audits as needed.
  • Interact with fully cross-functional teams to develop issue resolution strategies that will meet quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Lead or participate in weekly status level reviews to communicate issue status, next steps, risks to schedule, and potential corrective actions.
  • Participate in the prototyping and qualification of new repairs and tooling as needed.
  • Collaborate with all vested parties to assure on time task delivery.
  • Contribute to repair status meetings by providing technical updates on progress against project plans and key commitments.
  • Participate in repair process after action reviews.
  • Review and execute Engineering Standard Work (EKS) in accordance with latest process requirements.
  • Support the integration of safety and compliance requirements into repair planning and execution.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship
  • Experience reading and communicating engineering part and tool drawing requirements
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with customer interactions.
  • Experience in a shop floor environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple complex tasks.
  • Gas Turbine machinery and/or manufacturing experience.
  • Prior RTX Intern, co-op or work experience

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
