Summer 2027 Design Strategy Internship

Program Overview

Key's Enterprise Internship is a 10.5-week program that provides meaningful work, feedback, and coaching, along with engaging events and conversations to spark interest in a full-time career at Key.

Interns work on line-of-business specific projects that directly impact Key's business and strategic pillars. The program includes networking with Key teammates across all levels, Learning Labs with internal and external speakers on Key's competitive landscape, financial wellness, and professional development, plus an assigned mentor.

Job Summary

The Centricity and Process Design Intern will support the Key Experience and Design (KeyXD) team by contributing to initiatives that enhance KeyBank's client and employee experiences through user-centered design and process strategy. This role offers hands-on experience applying design thinking methodologies to uncover pain points, identify opportunities, and co-create solutions.

You'll strengthen your UX strategy and design skills, share your perspective, and contribute to journey mapping, process improvement, stakeholder engagement, and experience innovation. You'll collaborate with a team of experience champions, gaining exposure to how design and process centricity drive meaningful change at KeyBank.

Essential Functions

• Leverage design thinking tools and strategies.
• Collaborate with teammates and partners.
• Work with users to understand pain points and opportunities.

• Comply with all KeyBank policies and procedures, including acting professionally, conducting business ethically, avoiding conflicts of interest, and acting in the best interests of clients and Key.

Education

• Must have completed at least two years toward a four-year undergraduate degree with coursework in Customer Experience, Business, Marketing, Statistics, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, with an anticipated graduation in or before May 2028.

Work Experience

• Coursework, projects, or case studies that incorporated design thinking, problem solving, solutioning, analytics, or research.
• Projects that required effective writing and storytelling.
• Projects that exemplify productive collaboration and the ability to remove blockers.

Skills

• Conceptual thinking for creative problem solving.
• Strong relationship-building and influencing orientation with the ability to identify business needs and partnership opportunities.
• Ability to draw learnings from various resources (client research, business objectives, implementation plans, financials, etc.).
• Baseline business acumen to interpret and summarize insights aligned with strategic priorities.
• Strong structured thinking skills to break down complex problems into frameworks and recommendations.
• Compelling written and oral storytelling to communicate complex ideas effectively.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high-quality work products, including initiating, tracking, and reporting progress.
• Collaborative focus and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Productive and professional communication in face-to-face or virtual scenarios.
• Familiarity with client experience theory, concepts, and methodologies is preferred.
• Proficiency in Miro, Figma, or Adobe Suite.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint.

Physical Demands

• General Office: Prolonged sitting, ability to communicate face-to-face or on the phone, frequent use of PC/laptop, occasional lifting/pushing/pulling of backpacks or computer bags up to 10 lbs.

KeyBank's Internship and Analyst positions are not eligible for employment visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B visa). This includes situations where a candidate may have temporary work authorization while enrolled in school or upon graduation (e.g., CPT, OPT) but would need H-1B sponsorship within a few years.

Compensation and Benefits

This position earns an hourly rate of $23 per hour. Compensation also includes a $2,000 Summer Internship Sign-on Bonus.
