Takes part in training programs hosted by the Tech Academy, designed to build entry-level technical skills across several technology disciplines.

Application Developer

Working under a senior developer or manager, provides designs and specifies information systems solutions for basic to complex problems or enhancements. Helps evaluate client requirements and processes, and prepares application environments that may involve standard to diverse development platforms, software, hardware, technologies and tools. Takes part in day-to-day support activities and special projects.

Primary Responsibilities

• Complete a comprehensive training program to build entry-level technical skills in a specific discipline such as Software Engineering, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, or Data & Analytics.
• Work alongside a mentor through on-the-job training over a set time frame to understand your technology discipline, how the Bank uses specific technologies, and how those technologies work together to deliver solutions to internal and external customers.
• Complete basic to intermediate systems analysis, design and development.
• Play a supporting role as an individual contributor on projects.
• Help clients address problems and issues across a range of scopes.
• Identify feasible solutions and make recommendations.
• Take part with development, operations and Technology staff in system and integrated testing on small to medium efforts or on specific phases of larger projects.
• Prepare test data and carry out detailed test plans.
• Take part in debugging as required.
• Assess and understand interrelationships and effects among programs and interfacing applications.
• Use available resources to write clear, complete technical and functional specifications for small to medium-scope efforts.
• Update systems documentation.
• Prepare charts, tables and diagrams to help analyze problems, and assist with logic flowcharts.
• Prepare assessments and task plans covering required tasks, estimated timeframes and effort for assignments.
• Recommend new technology, policies or processes that benefit the organization and address deficiencies.
• Provide consultation to clients, technicians and Bank departments on basic functions of supported applications, including system capabilities, operational procedures, forms, marketing materials and cost analyses.
• Understand and follow the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in line with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues that need escalation to management.
• Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and any issues raised by external regulators, as applicable.
• Complete other related duties and projects as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities

The Technology Apprentice takes part in a comprehensive training program designed to launch a career in a technology-related field. The program combines career planning, technical and competency-based training, and mentorship to prepare participants for a successful career in Technology.
