2027 Operating Systems Engineer

Overview

This role takes part in the Bank's Technology Development Program (TDP), a 2-year program that builds deep technical skills in one specific discipline. Participants then complete a series of rotations across several Technology departments to broaden their understanding of all technical disciplines while continuing to grow in their chosen discipline.

Operating Systems

The Operating Systems team supports the Windows Server and Red Hat Linux platforms that power the Bank's technology environment, with a main focus on operating system infrastructure hosted in Amazon Web Services (AWS). Team members help maintain, automate, and improve platform services across cloud and enterprise environments. They also work with infrastructure and application teams to troubleshoot issues and keep operating system services reliable. Participants gain exposure to cloud computing and infrastructure automation and configuration practices using tools such as YAML, Terraform, and Ansible.

Primary Responsibilities

• Work with experienced technology staff to build in-depth skills in a specific discipline such as Software Engineering, Engineering, Architecture, Data Engineering or Cybersecurity.
• Complete a series of rotations over a set timeframe across multiple technical disciplines to understand how they are used at the Bank and how they work together to deliver solutions and services to internal and external customers.
• Determine a post-program assignment in one of the core areas through career path design, performance assessment, and personal interest.
• Understand and follow the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in line with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues that need escalation to management.
• Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and any issues raised by external regulators.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities

The Technology Development Program is a rotational training program for Bachelor's degree holders in a technical discipline. The program is flexible so participants can shape their career and expand their goals. It combines career planning, technical and competency-based training, mentorship, and challenging assessments designed to accelerate one's career with the Bank.
