Lockheed Martin is leading the way in hypersonic missile development, and this team is building the first hypersonic boost/glide system for the US Army and Navy under the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) program. The NGC-SW Integrated Product Team (IPT) owns the algorithms and software that control it, including the Navigation, Guidance, and Control (NG&C or GN&C) subsystem that flies the missile and glide body, and the embedded Flight Software (FSW) that hosts those algorithms and manages health, status, and sequencing for the whole system. The group also develops and maintains the Flight Software testbeds (HILs or HWILs) used for hardware integration testing, with feedback and flight simulation.
Lockheed Martin Space is hiring a Software Engineering Intern for a full-time summer position. The intern will support the software engineering lifecycle under the program Software Development Plan (SDP), including requirements analysis, object-oriented analysis & design, code reviews, unit testing, integration support, and help with formal test and delivery activities. The role is aimed at undergraduate students who want hands-on experience with aerospace software on advanced hypersonic systems.
The ideal candidate has experience and/or knowledge of C, C++, or Python. Candidates must be currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, typically at rising sophomore, junior, or senior standing. US citizenship is required due to program requirements, and eligibility for a government security clearance is necessary. The role is located at a facility with special access requirements.
This is a full-time summer internship (typically 10 to 12 weeks) with mentorship from experienced NG&C and FSW engineers, exposure to hardware-in-the-loop testing environments, and the chance to contribute to critical algorithms and flight software for the next-generation boost/glide system.
The position performs assignments in technical and engineering organizations (for example Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering) during vacations and short-term breaks while enrolled in an accredited degree program.
Benefits offered include Medical, Dental, Vision, flexible work arrangements and schedules (e.g., 4x10), 401(k) match, paid time off, holidays, parental leave, EAP, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability. Annual incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position, and payments are not guaranteed.
