Intern: sUAS Software Engineer (CA)

This role involves assignments in technical and engineering organizations (such as Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering, Facilities Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering) during vacations and short-term breaks from college, while you are enrolled in an accredited degree program.

Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is looking for a Summer 2027 Software Engineer Intern. You will join a team designing tactical sUAS and related accessories, working closely with a cross-functional engineering group. Your work will focus on developing, integrating, and deploying software and firmware for sUAS, their accessories, and control devices.

You will help ensure quality and reliability by taking part in peer reviews, writing documentation, anticipating and addressing potential issues, and supporting a production team.

The ideal candidate can write efficient, functional, and reliable code and build effective software tests. Experience writing embedded firmware for microcontrollers is important. You should be able to apply relevant theory to development and troubleshoot complex software issues. A can-do attitude, enjoyment of challenges, and a drive to build an excellent product are also expected.

Desired Skills

• Experience with DevOps, including containerization and Docker development and deployment
• Experience developing with and programming microcontrollers
• Experience integrating or working with autonomy software and/or hardware, including perception, motion or mission planning, or controls
• Experience writing code for test and verification
• Experience developing a quality software CI/CD pipeline
• Familiarity with electrical schematics
