Software Developer Intern

Leidos is looking for a Software Developer Intern (starting in summer 2027) for the Intel Sector's Cyber & Analytics Business Area (CABA). The team works across Security Engineering, Computer Network Operations (CNO), Mission Software, Analytical Methods and Modeling, Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), and Cryptographic Key Management. The selected intern(s) will do software development on a large, complex program using agile methods. The program uses Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and test automation tools, along with a full set of team collaboration tools. It follows DevOps practices and runs on development, test, and production environments. The program provides systems engineering, development, testing, integration, and operational support, and is adding new technology while supporting an ongoing mission system. Responsibilities may cover any part of the software development lifecycle. Interns work full time over the summer break and may work part time during the school year.

Primary Responsibilities

Work includes software development tasks alone or as part of an agile team. Interns will use design tools, support formal specifications, data flow diagrams, and other accepted design methods, and apply sound software engineering principles so code is modifiable, efficient, reliable, understandable, fault tolerant, and reusable. They will manage software process control during coding and promote code reuse and cross-program collaboration by building common functions and shared actions for developers and testers. Tasks may include:

• Taking part in peer code reviews to improve code written by teammates.
• Creating new applications or updating existing ones based on user requirements.
• Communicating with team members about project status and issues.
• Building prototypes of new technologies and features for future products.
• Debugging code to fix errors and improve performance.
• Testing software for bugs or issues that affect functionality or user experience.
• Reviewing documentation on new technology releases or product updates.
• Researching new technologies and techniques to find areas for improvement.
• Analyzing data to identify trends and form solutions.

Basic Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, entering junior or senior year.
• Experience with at least one major programming language (e.g., Java, C++, Python).
• Strong problem solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• US citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain a TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance before the start date. The investigation requires, among other things, an in-person interview in Maryland at the intern's own expense.
• Ability to maintain a TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance after the start date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Java coding experience.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming concepts.
• Experience with multiple programming languages.
• Experience with software development tools (e.g., Eclipse, Visual Studio, Git).
• Experience with databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB).
• Experience with web development technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP).
