We are looking for talent for the TDS Proteins DDS Co-Op role in Malvern, PA.

  • 3 vacancies are currently available.
  • The co-op term is typically six months, from January to June 2027 (flexible).
  • Full-time requirement (40 hours per week), fully on-site.

Purpose

The TDS Proteins Development Drug Delivery Systems (DDS) organization is looking for a motivated Co-Op to support research, design, development, testing, and characterization of drug delivery systems, combination products, and medical devices across early and late-stage programs.

This role offers hands-on experience in engineering development, laboratory testing, product characterization, data analysis, and experimental design while working with cross-functional teams. The candidate will contribute to product development, verification, risk management, performance evaluation, and technical investigations for next-generation pharmaceutical and medical device solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the design, development, and characterization of drug delivery systems, combination products, and medical devices.
  • Contributing to device technologies for targeted drug delivery applications.
  • Designing, implementing, and running engineering test methods and performance evaluations.
  • Supporting laboratory investigations, mechanical characterization studies, and product performance assessments.
  • Assisting with the design and fabrication of testing fixtures and experimental setups.
  • Running engineering studies, analyzing data, and documenting results for development, verification, validation, risk management, and regulatory activities.
  • Exploring novel modeling, testing, and analytical approaches to improve characterization and development efficiency.
  • Analyzing experimental results using statistical and engineering methods.
  • Taking part in design of experiments (DOE) discussions and technical problem-solving.
  • Collaborating with engineers, scientists, and cross-functional teams on development programs.
  • Maintaining lab notebooks, technical documentation, and project records per established procedures.
  • Presenting technical findings and project updates to internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Completion of undergraduate freshman year at an accredited university is required.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Biological, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Computer Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related engineering or scientific field.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher across all college coursework.
  • No summer internship or other employment commitment that could conflict with the contract dates.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at once.
  • Ability to work independently and within a cross-functional team.
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and learning agility.

Must be permanently authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require employment visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B or green card) now or in the future. Students on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT generally require future sponsorship and do not meet requirements unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not need company sponsorship.

Candidates under 18 may need to obtain working papers or other documentation required by state law, plus parental consent for the background check.

Technical Requirements

Candidates should have completed coursework or show knowledge in:

  • Calculus, Statics and Dynamics, Thermodynamics, and Fluid Mechanics.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience or exposure in any of the following areas is preferred:

Product Development and Manufacturing

  • Prior experience in product R&D, including medical devices, combination products, pharmaceutical products, or physical goods manufacturing.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, including extrusion, injection molding, additive manufacturing (3D printing), and manufacturing engineering concepts.
  • Experience with medical devices, combination products, injectable products, or drug delivery systems.

Software and Engineering Tools

Experience using engineering software such as:

  • SolidWorks
  • Fusion 360
  • Creo Parametric
  • Minitab
  • JMP
  • 3D CAD modeling of components and assemblies.

Testing and Characterization

  • Experience with mechanical testing and characterization, including tensile testing (Instron or similar equipment).
  • Experience developing, executing, or validating engineering test methods and test fixtures.
  • Experience with laboratory investigations, product performance characterization, and design verification.

Documentation and Design Controls

Experience writing technical documentation, such as:

  • User Requirements.
  • Design Requirements.
  • Test Protocols.
  • Technical Reports.
  • Risk Management Documentation.
  • Control Strategy Documentation.

Research and Innovation

  • Experience with experimental design, research activities, data analysis, and statistical interpretation.
  • Exposure to modeling, simulation, software engineering, electrical engineering, or multidisciplinary product development.
