We are looking for talent for the TDS Proteins CEAS Automation Co-Op in Spring House, PA.

  • One vacancy is currently available.
  • The co-op term is typically six months, from January to June 2027 (flexible).
  • Full-time requirement (40 hours per week), fully on-site.

Purpose

The TDS Proteins Development Cell Engineering, Analytics & Screening (CEAS) organization is seeking a motivated Co-Op to support the development and expansion of laboratory automation capabilities for large molecule biotherapeutic development.

The Co-Op will work at the intersection of software development, laboratory automation, and scientific research. The role supports converting existing automation scheduling platforms into modular, deployable systems, with hands-on work in Python development, full-stack automation software, device integration, robotics, and automated laboratory workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with physical automation and software teams to turn existing scheduling platforms into modular, deployable systems that adapt to different laboratory workcell configurations.
  • Characterize laboratory workcells, including device configurations, integration needs, and workflow requirements.
  • Develop, configure, test, and validate software modules that connect laboratory instruments with automation systems.
  • Configure scheduling logic for different instrument combinations and automated workflows.
  • Test and verify end-to-end automated workflows for reliable system performance.
  • Support the architecture and development of modular automation software.
  • Apply Python skills to software development, automation, system integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Gain hands-on experience with full-stack automation software and contribute to other laboratory automation opportunities.
  • Analyze and interpret technical and experimental results using analytical and statistical methods.
  • Take part in technical discussions, experimental design, and problem-solving.
  • Work with internal and external partners and join project meetings.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and project records per established guidelines.
  • Provide additional software, automation, and project support as needed.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Completion of freshman year at an accredited university is required.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Biology, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher across all college coursework.
  • No summer internship or other employment commitment that could conflict with the contract dates.
  • Python programming experience is required.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn and work with software systems that support laboratory automation and scientific workflows.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities while delivering results.
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.

Applicants must be permanently authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) now or in the future. Students on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT generally need future sponsorship for long-term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless they hold an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

Applicants under 18 may need to obtain working papers or other documentation required by state law, along with parental consent for the background check.
