Join Amgen's Mission of Serving Patients

At Amgen, our shared mission is to serve patients living with serious illnesses. That mission guides everything we do.

Since 1980, Amgen has helped pioneer biotech in the fight against some of the world's toughest diseases. We focus on four therapeutic areas: Oncology, Inflammation, General Medicine, and Rare Disease, and reach millions of patients each year. Our pipeline spans cancer, heart disease, inflammatory conditions, rare diseases, and obesity and obesity-related conditions. As part of the team, you will help make a lasting impact as we research, manufacture, and deliver innovative medicines.

Our culture is collaborative, innovative, and science based. If you enjoy taking on challenges, you will thrive here.

What You Will Do

This internship lasts approximately 12 weeks and combines project-based work with experiential learning. Interns become integral members of the R&D Execution, Operations & Strategy (R&D EOS) organization, which drives innovation beyond the molecule and applies digital and other strategies to simplify processes. The four functional areas within R&D EOS are:

  • Strategy: Powering industry-leading R&D through strategy, functional transformation, and performance excellence
  • Portfolio & Program Management: Turning product strategy into execution to bring medicines to patients faster
  • R&D Business Operations: Managing R&D operational activities such as budget planning and contracting, suppliers, laboratories, workforce strategy, and environmental, social & governance (ESG)
  • R&D Knowledge & Learning: Advancing digitization and modern learning, and building talent and culture for a people-centric, inclusive workforce

Your work will be highly collaborative across functions and levels, including Research & Development, Chief Medical Office, Chief Technology Office, Quality & Compliance, and others. You will be responsible for one or more key projects, such as:

  • Supporting a project within one of the functional areas
  • Working with cross-functional teams to improve R&D competitiveness through speed, agility, and excellence in execution
  • Applying analytical, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to identify problems, conduct research, develop recommendations through qualitative and quantitative analysis, and deliver final projects
  • Presenting your findings at an intern-wide poster session and a final readout to executive management
  • Taking part in learning activities, networking across the company, and accessing Amgen's Employee Resource Groups
  • Meeting internal stakeholders to learn common procedures and points of contact
  • Reviewing and organizing approved Supplier Management Performance & Analytics (SMPA) procedures and reference materials
  • Identifying document gaps, outdated information, or conflicting guidance for procedure owners to review
  • Building and configuring an SMPA Procedures agent using Microsoft 365 Copilot Agent Builder or ChatGPT Agent Builder
  • Writing clear agent instructions and suggested prompts that guide users to approved source material
  • Creating test questions covering routine, ambiguous, and out-of-scope scenarios
  • Evaluating responses for accuracy, source support, clarity, consistency, and handling of uncertainty
  • Finding documents, recommending improvements, and presenting the prototype and results to stakeholders

This description is a general outline. Specific tasks and requirements may vary depending on the project.
