About the job

At Relativity Space, we're building rockets to serve today's needs and tomorrow's breakthroughs. The Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting growing demand for launch capacity. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will open new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation.

Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. You will solve problems that have not been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Whether you work in propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, or a corporate function, you will collaborate across teams and see your work come to life quickly.

About the Team

The Offshore Recovery team designs, builds and operates the maritime vessels used to land and recover the Terran R launch vehicle. This is not a standard desk job. The team is lean and fast-moving, covering the full project lifecycle from system requirements and design, to hands-on build and activation in the shipyard, through supporting offshore recovery missions at sea. The team works with Terran R designers, launch pad builders and rocket engine testers.

About the Role

  • Support the design, integration, testing, and operation of electrical systems aboard the recovery barge across the engineering lifecycle, including development, construction, sea trials, certification, and offshore mission support.
  • Provide engineering support for low-voltage control systems, rocket ground systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), networking, high-power distribution, and RF telemetry.
  • Support offshore recovery operations by verifying electrical system functionality and assisting with troubleshooting to enable safe and reliable landing and recovery of Terran R.
  • Collaborate with engineering, marine, and operations teams to resolve technical issues, improve system performance, and support mission readiness.
  • Apply lessons learned from initial recovery operations to the design and integration of future landing platforms and recovery systems.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, with academic projects, internships, or other hands-on experience applying engineering principles to physical hardware or electrical systems.
  • Foundational understanding of electrical engineering principles and the ability to apply technical knowledge to unfamiliar systems and engineering challenges.
  • Clear technical communication and effective coordination with engineering, construction, and operations teams.
  • Ability to work across disciplines, contribute to shared technical objectives, and support work outside your primary area as project needs change.
  • Willingness to travel an average of at least 25% of the time, with potential weekend work and schedule variations to support shipyard activities, construction, sea trials, certification, and offshore mission operations.
  • Ability to work in marine and offshore environments as the role requires, including field activities and system integration, testing, and operational readiness.

Nice to Have (Not Required)

  • Familiarity with low-voltage control systems, PLCs, networking, or RF systems.
  • Familiarity with high-power electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience supporting engineering, testing, or operations in a marine environment.

Successful candidates must pass a background check administered by the US government to obtain clearance for on-site work at the government partner location in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
