About the job

Relativity Space is building rockets to serve today's needs and tomorrow's breakthroughs. The Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting growing demand for launch capacity. Commercial success with Terran R will open new opportunities in science, exploration, and innovation.

Joining Relativity means taking ownership and having an impact at every level. You will help develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up, working across propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, and corporate functions. Creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand here.

About the Team

The Structures and Mechanisms team handles the full design, build, and test lifecycle of Terran R's integrated structures and flight mechanisms. You will get hands-on hardware ownership and see the rocket come to life on the factory floor. Team members work across multiple parts of the vehicle and make decisions that directly affect flight hardware. After first flight, you will help refine the design for manufacturability and speed.

About the Role

You will guide the design of Terran R mechanisms such as stage separation, payload deployment, aero control features, and landing gear. You will work with the structures, avionics, and fluids groups and use Relativity's additive process and design freedom to build better products. The work covers the full design cycle: conceptualization, trade studies, design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing.

Example projects include:

  • Designing and testing the Terran R stage separation or fairing deployment system
  • Conceptualizing the Terran R landing gear or aero surface actuation
  • Defining design criteria and subsystem requirements
  • Reviewing static and dynamic load inputs, material properties, and manufacturing processes
  • Conducting trade studies on mechanism design concepts and presenting them to leadership

Your mission is to deliver on time and within budget. You will help integrate as many subsystems as possible into our printed primary structure and support the development of our additive process. You will work closely with the vehicle design, test, and loads teams, along with the additive and manufacturing teams.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, thrives in ambiguity, and can lead their own projects to completion. Experience in a fast-paced environment, with difficult projects completed through extreme ownership and effective collaboration, is a strong fit.
