Overview

Research Internships at Microsoft offer a dynamic setting for research careers, with a network of world-class research labs led by globally recognized scientists and engineers. These labs pursue innovation across many scientific and technical disciplines, tackling complex challenges in areas such as computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment.

The Machine Learning (ML) and Statistics group at Microsoft Research New England is hiring multiple Research Interns to work alongside leading researchers, applied scientists, and engineers to push the state of the art. Projects include applied and theoretical machine learning research on topics such as generative models, transfer learning, domain adaptation, stochastic control, meta-learning, sign language modeling, statistics, approximate inference, distribution compression, weather and climate forecasting, chemistry and materials science, causal inference, causal machine learning, ML for health, adversarial ML, learning and incentives, reinforcement learning, deep learning, supervised learning, and unsupervised learning.

Responsibilities

Research Interns turn inquiry and theory into practice. They learn, collaborate, and build professional networks alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world's leading researchers. Interns advance their own careers while contributing to meaningful research and development.

During the 12-week internship, Research Interns are paired with mentors and are expected to collaborate with other interns and researchers, present their findings, and take part in the life of the research community. Internships are available in all areas of research and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.

Application Requirements

  • Interns must be physically located in their manager's Microsoft worksite location for the full internship.
  • Applicants must submit a minimum of two reference letters, a cover letter, and any relevant work or research samples. Reference letters can only be requested after the application is submitted and may not be requested automatically for all candidates, so it helps to alert your letter writers in advance.
