About the job

At Lockheed Martin, the focus is on keeping people safe and solving the world's most complex challenges. The people here are among the best in the industry, and the company offers flexible schedules, competitive pay, and comprehensive benefits so employees can live a healthy, fulfilling life at and outside of work. This is a place for engineers, scientists, and problem-solvers who want to engage deeply, think critically, and build with purpose.

This internship offers structured, hands-on exposure to the electrical system integration test lifecycle within the Sustainment Mechanical Test Engineering Team. The intern will mainly support test preparation, observation, data work, and guided assistance while working under the mentorship of certified test conductors. The role builds foundational experience in test planning, instrumentation, data documentation, and cross-functional collaboration in a sustainment setting.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Foundational coursework or curiosity in electrical circuits, instrumentation, or test and evaluation methods
  • Must be a US Citizen; this position requires a government security clearance and is located at a facility that requires special access
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly document observations and follow procedural steps
  • Commitment to a 12-16 week engagement with hours coordinated around the academic schedule

Desired Skills

  • Hands-on hardware experience with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and respond to problems in a test, production, or operations capacity
  • Understanding of propulsion or energetic system design, development, manufacture, test, and/or data acquisition and analysis
  • Familiarity with test documentation standards or lifecycle sustainment processes is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel for data organization, PowerPoint for briefings)
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail; comfortable organizing and summarizing numerical data
  • Prior co-op, lab, or volunteer experience in mechanical test, prototype integration, or sustainment environments
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA (or institutionally equivalent)

Benefits

Benefits offered include medical, dental, vision, flexible work arrangements and schedules (e.g., 4x10), 401(k) match, paid time off, holidays, parental leave, EAP, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability.
