2027 Strategic Business Operations Summer Internship

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting several Summer Interns for the Global Development Organization. These roles are hybrid, with on-site work at one of our Pennsylvania or New Jersey locations.

The 2027 Summer Intern will support multiple optimization projects across Innovative Medicine R&D, helping to transform how R&D operates. You will work on project management, business operations strategy, and cost saving approaches, and you will learn about pharmaceutical R&D processes, cross-functional management, continuous improvement, and stakeholder management.

The intern will support the SBO group with responsibilities including:

• Project Leadership: Helping coordinate and oversee R&D projects so they are delivered on time, including tracking progress and managing risks.
• Operations Strategy: Helping develop and implement plans to improve business operations, identify areas for improvement, and streamline processes.
• Budgeting, Resources and Timelines: Helping manage budgets, monitor expenses, and allocate resources to meet project goals.
• Stakeholder Management: Interacting with internal and external stakeholders to keep teams aligned and share project updates.
• Continuous Improvement: Identifying process bottlenecks and best practices, and supporting a culture of efficiency.
• Communication: Encouraging open communication so team members feel comfortable sharing ideas and feedback.
• Change Management: Working closely with the Sparks change management team to support smooth implementation.
• Ensuring Implementation: Supporting initiatives with detailed execution plans monitored through KPIs.
• Other: Interfacing with global functions such as IT, Finance and Procurement, and supporting R&D Learning and Development strategy.

All interns will support projects aligned with our Credo values and strategic priorities. The program gives undergraduate students hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical R&D process, including cross-functional teamwork, global regulations, and how medicines reach patients. Selected interns may work across Pharma R&D and gain exposure to end-to-end drug development and data science and AI.

Life as a Summer Intern

The program offers hands-on experience, education, coaching, mentoring, and networking with colleagues across functions. Interns must follow applicable SOPs, work instructions, and policies, and complete required training.

• Typically runs from May 2027 to September 2027
• Hybrid schedule: 3 days at a local site and 2 days remote
• Required 40-hour work week
• Interns are responsible for their own transportation to local sites
• Assignments and work-site locations are matched to business needs
• A Summer Intern Project is completed alongside the daily assignment
• Pay is based on grade level at the time of offer
• Career mentorship and networking within the assigned team and beyond
