Data Scientist Intern in Armonk

Role Overview

We are looking for enthusiastic, driven interns to join the AI, Automation, and Data Platforms (AADP) team at IBM CIO. You will help build solutions using Watsonx LLMs (Large Language Models), Watsonx Orchestrate, Milvus, and other advanced technologies. You will work with cross-functional teams to fit these solutions into business processes, orchestrate components, and build scalable solutions using automation, AI, and data technologies.

The role calls for a solid grasp of business needs and the ability to turn them into technical stories that guide development. You will get hands-on work with IBM technologies, including GenAI (Watsonx.ai), LLM technologies, vector databases (Watsonx.data), and automation tools (Watson Orchestrate).

As a Data Scientist intern, you will combine strategic thinking with technical skills in AI, machine learning, and data analytics to deliver data-driven solutions aligned with business goals. You will work with team members and stakeholders to turn data insights into recommendations with real business impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the design, implementation, and optimization of AI-driven strategies based on stakeholder requirements.
• Design and implement machine learning solutions and statistical models, from problem formulation through deployment.
• Apply GenAI, traditional AI, ML, NLP, computer vision, or predictive analytics where applicable.
• Collect, clean, and preprocess structured and unstructured datasets.
• Help refine data-driven methods for transformation projects and learn cloud platforms that support AI scalability.
• Apply IBM standards for data science and development, along with ML Ops and AI ethics.
• Translate business requirements into technical strategies and prioritize work with stakeholders and the team.
• Contribute to AI and data science projects across exploration, model development, implementation, and deployment, using agile practices.
• Design measurement frameworks to benchmark AI solutions and track business impact through KPIs.
• Present findings to technical and non-technical audiences, create data visualizations and dashboards, and work with data engineers and developers to integrate AI solutions.
