About the job

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company focused on transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. Its family of systems runs on Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a real-time, 3D command and control center.

Anduril is seeking Field Test Engineer interns for its Quincy or Costa Mesa team. Interns will work in a start-up environment to advance subsea robotics. The role places you at the water's edge and on the deck, planning, executing and analyzing at-sea test events for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) and subsea systems. You will connect engineering with the real ocean environment and turn design intent into validated hardware and software performance. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving hard problems in the field, often far from the lab and in demanding austere conditions.

What You'll Do

  • Work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and specialists across AUV/ASV design, integration and test efforts
  • Take primary responsibility for hands-on troubleshooting, repair, operation and maintenance of AUVs, ASVs and subsea systems in the field
  • Lead day-to-day local operations for multiple AUVs, ASVs and subsea platforms, including pre-mission testing, launch and recovery, vehicle tasking and data analysis
  • Deploy globally to support maritime operations from a range of support vessels
  • Write, review and execute test plans during sea testing
  • Coordinate test execution with third-party vendors, partners and logistics companies
  • Author detailed daily operational test reports documenting the step-by-step execution of internal and customer-facing test and evaluation efforts
  • Support software UI design feedback for maritime systems
  • Help produce user documentation for AUV and subsea operations, including user guides and mission planning guides
  • Contribute to routine design reviews of the platform under test, focusing on operability and shortening the learning curve for at-sea operations
  • Contribute to next-generation designs and features for maritime products, from identifying improvements to leading test and evaluation of new technology rollouts
  • Take part in day-to-day offshore test operations, including multiple nearshore sea test days per week
