Co-Op Overview

This is a Monday-Friday Co-Op session running from January to June. Students are expected to take time off from coursework to fully engage in this working mentorship opportunity. The position is located in Aguadilla, PR, and you must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered.

What You Will Learn

  • Supporting design and development of externals and mechanical systems parts.
  • Hands-on exposure to structural analysis tools.
  • Working with requirements and engineering standards.
  • Collaboration and communication skills, including working with senior engineers, presenting work, asking good technical questions, and adapting to a professional engineering environment.

What You Will Do

  • Perform structural analysis for Externals and Mechanical Systems hardware throughout preliminary design, detailed design, validation, certification, and support for manufacturing and operational service.
  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis using ANSYS, Workbench, and Teamcenter, while applying classical methods for strength, stress/deflection, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance.
  • Contribute to technology development and continuous improvement of engineering standard work processes and methods.
  • Document analysis results and present findings to management and external customers.
  • English (read, write, speak) is required when communicating with customers, co-workers, or supervisors who only speak English.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.

About the Team

Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles Engineering is responsible for the design, development, and in-service support of power transmission systems, bearing compartment and rotor support design and analysis, oil and thermal management systems, engine externals packaging and architecture, as well as nacelles for commercial and military engine models.

Technical disciplines include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Product Definition, System Modeling, Mechanical Design analysis for bearings, gears, and seals, and fluid-thermal modeling of associated components and systems.

Work Arrangement

This position is classified as Hybrid. Employees in Hybrid roles work regularly both onsite and offsite. Responsibilities need to be performed onsite in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico on a regular basis, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.
