About the Role
Join our team developing cutting-edge software for the Quarterhorse supersonic unmanned aircraft. You'll work with C++ and web technologies (TypeScript/JavaScript) to build control systems for both remotely piloted (HOTAS) and autonomous flight modes. This role includes designing and implementing intuitive user interfaces, ranging from hands-on control to point-and-click autonomy management.
Responsibilities
- Develop software for the human-machine interaction (HMI) program used by flight crew to control the aircraft and run simulations.
- Develop communications software (RF, Satcom, networking) running on the ground and on the vehicle.
- Collaborate with flight crew to develop and assess usability of cockpit software and hardware.
- Collaborate with engineers to display and control hardware systems.
- Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle: planning, design, implementation, review, testing, documentation, and user evaluation.
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university (undergraduate student, at least a rising senior, or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program).
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with C/C++.
- Experience with web applications (JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular, Electron, etc.).
- Knowledge of computer networking.
- Aviation or simulation experience.
- Strong understanding of engineering first principles.
- Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams.
- Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus' mission.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- GPA of 3.0 or above.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge or interest in the aerospace industry (aviation or rocketry clubs, pilot license, DCS Ace, etc.).
- Experience working on 2D or 3D games or simulations (especially Unreal, Unity, Cesium).
- Networking protocol knowledge (TCP/UDP), IP routing, etc.
- User Interface (UI) or Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) classes.
Benefits
- Time Off: Interns are eligible for 5 days of sick leave and unpaid time off.
- Office Perks: Weekly paid office lunches and fully stocked breakrooms.
