The Role

Schonfeld is looking for exceptional interns to join the Quantitative Research team in the Austin metro area. Interns will work alongside researchers and developers on projects such as designing new predictive signals and improving algorithms for prediction, trade execution, portfolio construction, and risk management. You will have the chance to contribute meaningfully across several areas of the quantitative trading business.

What You'll Do

As a Quantitative Researcher Intern, you will contribute to research into predictive trading signals and learn how quantitative methods are used to build and evaluate them. You will develop predictive features and machine learning models, test research hypotheses, and assess predictive performance on out-of-sample data. You will also have the opportunity to use AI tools to improve your coding and analysis. Over the 10-week program, you will work with senior team members to learn what it takes to succeed as a quantitative researcher, and you will get to network with colleagues throughout the internship.

What You Need

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in a quantitative or technical field such as statistics, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, or computer science (ideally with one academic year remaining after the internship)
• Excellent programming skills in one or more languages such as Python, C, C++, Java, SQL, or R
• Strong knowledge of probability, statistics, and machine learning techniques. Knowledge of deep learning or natural language processing is a plus.
• The ability to communicate research ideas clearly and succinctly
• Creative problem-solving skills and experience working with real-world datasets
• Strong attention to detail
• Previous financial industry experience is a plus but not required

Our Internship

Schonfeld's Summer Internship is a 10-week program where you will build solutions to real-world challenges and make a lasting impact on the firm. You will be paired with a dedicated manager and a mentor who will support your development during the internship and beyond. The program includes learning sessions with senior leaders, hands-on skills workshops, social networking events, and a behind-the-scenes look at how different functions run the firm.
