What You Will Do

The Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles (MSEN) structures team is looking for an intern in the structures discipline to perform structural analyses of mechanical system and externals hardware on commercial engine programs. This hardware includes bearing supports, bearing centering springs, spacers, shafts, bearings, seals, gearboxes, oil tanks, fan drive gear system, tubes, brackets, nozzles, mounts and ducts.

The structures intern will support finite element (FE) analyses, run PW tools for life estimations, document results for structures discipline reviews, take part in multi-disciplined integrated product teams, and present analysis results.

As a Structures Intern at Pratt & Whitney, you will:

  • Perform structural analysis across all phases of the product development cycle, including concept initiation, preliminary design, detailed design, testing and validation, certification, and post certification.
  • Provide recommendations to the design team that balance structural, performance, weight, and producibility requirements.
  • Provide test support during rig and engine validation, monitor critical instrumentation to capture key learning points (KLPs), ensure health and safety, perform data reduction and analysis, and confirm test objectives are met.
  • Use finite element analysis and classical methods to evaluate MSEN component strength, stiffness, deflection, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance.
  • Document analysis results and present them in meetings.

What You Will Learn

  • Engineering interns at Pratt & Whitney work on challenging, meaningful, and impactful projects across the business.
  • The intern program helps you build an understanding of the aerospace industry and learn about the company and its operations.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience working both independently and in a team environment.
  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.
