Graduate Internship: Underfoot Systems Engineer (Beaverton)

Nike Innovation Underfoot Systems is a team focused on inventing future cushioning technologies and systems. The team consists of engineers, scientists, and innovators with a passion to create new technologies that benefit all of the world's athletes*. The team works end to end, understanding athlete needs, delivering new concepts through ideation, method of make development, and validation to advance cushioning systems for all athletes.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

As a Cushioning Engineering Intern, you'll work with the Cushioning Innovation team to invent, innovate, evaluate, and characterize future cushioning systems to better understand their function and performance. To succeed, you'll need a strong engineering problem-solving mindset, a bias for getting your hands dirty, a self-starter mentality, and positive energy every day. You will be curious at your core, willing to challenge assumptions and imagine new possibilities. You will also clearly communicate complex technical topics to diverse audiences at all levels within the organization.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a curious and creative intern with a passion for learning and pushing the limits of what's possible. As a Cushioning Engineer Intern, you will support the development of new performance-based cushioning systems that result in growth opportunities and competitive advantages in the marketplace. This is a hands-on role supporting research and development of product innovations.

• Pursuing a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field with a graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
• Proven project management skills including experience with project tracking tools
• Experience creating and executing Design of Experiments (DOE)
• Comfortable running complex machinery with high regard for safety
• Familiarity with systems thinking approach and application
• Strong data analytics: capture, analysis, and presentation skills
• Excellent multi-tasking and organization skills
• Systematic and creative problem-solving skills
• Plastics molding, injection tooling, mold design experience preferred
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use manual tools
• Experience creating and/or interpreting 3D models with design engineering software such as Rhino, Siemens NX, a plus.
• Strong communication skills with ability to communicate across a variety of audiences
