Research Internships at Microsoft offer a dynamic environment for research careers. Interns work with a network of world-class research labs led by globally recognized scientists and engineers, who pursue innovation across scientific and technical disciplines to address complex challenges in areas such as computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment.
The Microsoft Catalyst Lab conducts world-class research and develops technology intended to help billions of people and organizations achieve more. The GraphRAG team works at the intersection of large language models (LLMs), agentic workflows, and graph machine learning.
Research Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. They learn, collaborate, and build professional networks alongside doctoral candidates and some of the world's leading researchers. Over a 12-week internship, interns are paired with mentors, collaborate with other interns and researchers, present their findings, and take part in the life of the research community. Internships are available in all research areas and offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.
Additional Responsibilities
Interns are expected to be physically located at their manager's Microsoft worksite for the duration of the internship. Applicants will submit a cover letter, at least two reference letters, and any relevant work or research samples. Reference letters may be requested automatically after the application is submitted, so applicants may wish to alert their letter writers in advance.
Microsoft accepts applications and processes offers for these roles on an ongoing basis throughout the academic calendar (September to April). The position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted until it is filled.
Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, citizenship, color, family or medical care leave, gender identity or expression, genetic information, immigration status, marital status, medical condition, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, protected veteran or military status, race, ethnicity, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable local laws. Applicants needing religious or disability accommodations during the application process can learn more about requesting accommodations on Microsoft's careers site.
