About the job

Leidos is looking for an AI/ML Intern for Summer 2027. In the Leidos Autonomy and Artificial Intelligence branch, you will solve complex engineering problems alongside a multidisciplinary team of aerospace engineers, computer scientists, research scientists, and statisticians. The group delivers solutions for aerospace and defense problems such as autonomous battle management, robotic vehicle guidance, and model-based system identification.

Primary Responsibilities

The intern will develop solutions to aerospace and defense problems using engineering, AI/ML, and software skills. You will typically be given one or more open-ended research problems tied to ongoing projects, letting you contribute directly to active development and make a meaningful impact on project success.

Over the summer, you will build technical skills while working through your problems. Topics may include dynamical modeling and simulation, machine learning (such as supervised learning and reinforcement learning), statistics-based analysis, and data visualization. Solutions are expected to be implemented in software, commonly using Python.

To succeed, you will use internal resources such as software toolkits, collaborate with peers and experienced professionals, and learn independently. You will also work closely with an experienced mentor throughout the summer. At the end of the internship, you will have the chance to present your work at company-wide events and in a formal presentation.
