At IBM Infrastructure & Technology, the team designs and operates the systems that keep the world running, from high-resiliency mainframes and hybrid cloud platforms to networking, automation and site reliability. Teams ensure the performance, security and scalability that clients and industries depend on every day, and work with diverse technologies and colleagues worldwide.
Technical content is the backbone of the client digital self-service experience and is essential for client retention and growth. In this apprenticeship you will design, develop and publish technical product content, such as text embedded in the UI, messages, product and API documentation and multimedia, with a focus on clarity, accuracy and other quality characteristics. You will collaborate with the Design community to create user-centric content.
The IBM Apprenticeship Program lasts approximately 12 months and is an official registered apprenticeship recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL). Graduates receive a nationally recognized credential from the DOL. During the program you will complete required learning hours and on-the-job training, learning at your own pace with most apprentices finishing within 12 months. After graduating and receiving your certificate, you will be eligible to apply for available full-time roles at IBM.
Apprentices join a local cohort, start with a few weeks of learning about IBM, then work with managers and mentors on a personal skills roadmap through hands-on application with project teams. Milestones earn digital credentials, and apprentices regularly return together for ongoing professional and technical training.
You will learn content development fundamentals, content architecture, publication testing, agile principles, IBM Design Thinking, DevOps and continuous delivery. You will also be a contributing team member who proposes ideas, takes on responsibilities and makes choices about how work gets done.
Some knowledge or experience in one or more of the following is helpful: writing accurate content for a global audience, designing, developing, editing and producing technical documentation, design thinking, using shared source repositories such as GitHub, agile principles, or HTML, XML or DITA tagging languages.
Helpful exposure includes content creation tools such as help authoring tools, content management systems and version control systems, basic visual content principles for graphics and multimedia, and an interest in organizing content for easy navigation.
