About the Role and Program

WPVI-TV is an ABC owned television station (OTVS) in a state-of-the-art facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 6abc/Action News is Philadelphia's #1 source for news and has covered the biggest stories of the day for more than 50 years, reaching more than 8 million people across the Delaware Valley, including Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and Southern New Jersey.

This is a part-time, six-month internship in the Philadelphia area from January 2027 to June 2027. Action News runs 24/7, 365 days a year, so intern schedules may change with news coverage demands, breaking news and special projects. Flexibility is essential.

What You Will Do

You will learn from the journalists, producers, photojournalists and digital teams behind Philadelphia's #1 news source. No two days are the same: you might help producers prepare election coverage, join a reporter in the field on breaking news, sit in on editorial meetings, edit video, or help the assignment desk track developing stories. You will see how a story moves from idea to broadcast and how it is shared across television, streaming, digital and social media.

You will also work with the assignment desk, handling calls and emails from viewers, public information officers, community organizations and newsmakers. The role calls for strong interpersonal skills and professional, confident communication with a wide range of people.

On any given day you might be:

• Working alongside producers, executive producers, reporters, photojournalists, digital producers and assignment editors.
• Attending editorial meetings where story decisions are made.
• Assisting with newsgathering, breaking news coverage and special projects.
• Learning video editing and newsroom production workflows.
• Supporting election coverage and major planned events.
• Seeing how content is created and distributed across broadcast, streaming, digital and social media.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Demonstrated interest in journalism, storytelling and current events through coursework, internships, campus media or related projects.
• Written and verbal communication skills shown through academic, extracurricular or internship experience.
• Experience handling calls and inquiries from viewers, organizations and public officials through internships, campus media or customer-facing roles.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
• Organization and attention to detail.
